Intelligent Internet Management
Caching system optimises use of Broadband in schools
Freedom2Cache shortlisted from a 2004 BETT Award (Early/Primary Years Hardware category)
Freedom2 is celebrating the success of the Freedom2Cache solution at BETT 2004, where it has been shortlisted for a 2004 BETT Award. Freedom2Cache is now an approved solution for 5 LEAs and Freedom2Cache servers are the only recommended solution in Manchester, where 140 schools have been supplied.
Announced last year as an optional entry level for Freedom2 intelligent internet management solutions for schools and educational institutions, Freedom2Cache helps schools to implement broadband technology. With BECTA standard web caching, user-defined web filtration, a full internet audit system and competitive pricing it has consolidated Freedom2’s technical lead in internet management solutions for schools
The modular design of the Freedom2 server-based solutions means that they can be built up gradually, starting with Freedom2Cache to achieve a complete, comprehensive Internet management system. This was a major consideration for Manchester Education Partnership, whose ICT Systems and Curriculum Manager Steve Moss said: “The product was well priced as a caching, filtration and audit device yet offered many potentially useful upgrades, all of which are important to enhancing the use of the Internet in schools.”
Freedom2Cache provides the means for teachers to download and store material from the web in advance of lesson time, so that it is readily available when needed. It includes the additional security of flexible web filtration, under local control.
Freedom2Teach, the complete solution, includes all of these facilities with the addition of email filtering, remote access (enabling teachers and pupils to work from home) plus full tracking and reporting of access and usage.
Freedom2 solution work with all the PCs on the school’s network and a choice of user-friendly interfaces for staff and pupils. The Primary Interface has been designed bearing younger age groups in mind and contains simple colourful images, whilst the Secondary Interface, designed for older pupils, has functions including an electronic timetable, organiser and intranet management.
Freedom2 is easy to manage, whether at individual school or LEA level, a factor that is important for planning and provision of central technical support.
