Teachers in Training can now board The Big Bus for free
New alliance between the TTA and The Big Bus
The Big Bus, the producer of educational software for three to eleven year olds, today announces that it is providing the Teacher Training Agency (TTA) with free access to all of its activities and resources, to support ICT work undertaken by student teachers.
The collaboration between The Big Bus and the TTA will enable students throughout England’s teacher training establishments to acquaint themselves with e-learning products aimed at children. The Big Bus can also be used as part of a student teacher’s portfolio to demonstrate a specified standard of ICT skills – something that all teachers must produce at the end of their training.
The Big Bus is available as an online subscription service to schools. It provides a substantial range of fun educational activities that support the national curriculum and is automatically updated as new resources and activities are released.
Site licences for The Big Bus are priced at £90 pa for nursery level or £180 pa for primary. In addition, schools can choose to be supplied with the full service for off-line use on CD–ROM, updated each term, for an additional cost of £20 pa. For LEA-wide licences, fees are negotiable.
The Big Bus managing director, Ian Goodall, commented: “There is a real need for top quality software and online learning resources within Teacher Training institutions. By providing The Big Bus free of charge we are helping to accelerate the progress being made. This will also ensure teachers familiarise themselves with good quality ICT products, which work hand in hand with the curriculum.”
Chris Dee, Director of Initial Teacher Training Support from the TTA commented: “We believe this is the first solid offer of free software from a supplier who is Curriculum Online approved, and we welcome the approach. This initiative will give trainee teachers valuable free access to material to widen their knowledge and experience of e-products and help them reach the standards they need to achieve Qualified Teacher Status.”
