Primary school ICT takes The Big Bus route in Buckinghamshire
Countys primary schools take the lead with innovative new children's educational IT product30th July 2002
The Big Bus, the childrens educational software from Imparo, has been selected to support the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) schemes of work for all Buckinghamshire primary schools.
The countys primary school ICT coordinators voted for The Big Bus as their preferred educational IT resource for young children, at a forum organised by Buckinghamshire County Council.
Designed to make learning fun, The Big Bus provides colourful, interactive learning software for children aged 3 to 10 years old. The software presents interactive educational games to encourage children to learn in a bright, lively and dynamic environment. The Big Bus is developed by Imparo, a leading provider of high quality, interactive educational products.
The Big Bus won out over competitor products as it best fulfilled the criteria put forward by the Council's Schools Improvement Service. These were:
- Relevance to the National ICT Curriculum
- Cost
- Suitability to primary school age groups (Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2)
The Big Bus software content is designed for two distinct age groups: Bo Bear's World is for younger children, Explorers' World for older children. Each world contains activities specifically aimed at its target age group.
The Big Bus is produced by a team of authors who have many years of experience in producing top quality, UK-focused educational software. All activities are accompanied by links to the UK schools curriculum.
Dodie Hodgkinson, ICT Advisor to the Schools Improvement Service, commented: "We arranged an open forum for ICT coordinators, at which they were given the chance to evaluate products from leading providers of online educational content. The Big Bus most closely matched the criteria in the view of those responsible for implementing ICT in their schools. As a result, it will be available to children across Buckinghamshire."
Ian Goodall, Managing Director of The Big Bus (The Big Bus Conductor), said: "Those on the frontline of IT education in primary schools, the ICT coordinators themselves, have selected The Big Bus as the preferred option for all Buckinghamshire schools.
"This reflects the compelling content the product offers, and the tailored nature of the activities to the national curriculum and to the particular demands of primary school ICT."
