Schools Offered Freedom2Cache
Timley Answer to DfES Directive on Schools' Internet ManagementJanuary 2003
Freedom 2, provider of Intelligent Internet Management solutions for schools, today announced the timely launch of a product to enable caching and filtration of web use by teachers and students.
Freedom2Cache brings the advantages of web caching (temporary storing of web pages for quick access) and the security of web filtration (barring of certain pages) to schools internet use.
The Department for Education and Skills recently issued a directive to regional Grids for Learning and Broadband Consortia, advising them to examine the use of caching solutions in schools. The directive was prompted by the realisation that caching plays a vital part in the successful implementation of Broadband in schools, given their high levels of internet use.
Freedom2Cache is set to offer a high quality, easy-to-manage caching option. Matt Gray, Managing Director of Freedom2 said: "We welcome the DfES directive which replicates our view in maximising the advantages available to schools from caching and filtration."
"This is why we have developed and launched Freedom2Cache, a product to give schools the ease of mind which comes with higher throughput and complete, manageable control of internet use."
Caching is a technology that function allowing web pages to be stored temporarily on a server and re-accessed quickly without re-connecting to the website in question. Caching, therefore, allows for faster throughput as pages do not have to be re-loaded.
This function is particularly useful in group situations, including schools. For example when 30 pupils click on the same link during a lesson and the information is already stored on a server, download is must faster, as it does not rely on the schools internet connection.
Filtration allows school internet administrators to control who has access to which sites, giving schools the control required to prevent children accessing inappropriate material online.
In addition to filtration and caching, Freedom2Cache includes an auditing option. This allows administrators to keep check on exactly who has accessed which websites, when, and for how long.
The combination of caching, filtration and auditing functions that Freedom2Cache offers, provides schools with complete control over internet use in a single management solution that is simple to use.
Freedom2Cache is also scalable. This means that other modules from Freedom2 Imparo's full suite of Intelligent Internet Management product facilities, Freedom2Teach, can be added, allowing schools to take advantage of the complete range of internet services available from Freedom2.
Freedom2 is a division of Imparo, the leading provider of high quality educational products.
