Freedom2Teach in use in 16 LEAs
New Comprehensive Intelligent Internet Management Solution Makes Impressive In-Road into UK Education SectorJanuary 2003
Freedom2Teach, the Intelligent Internet Management solution for schools, has seen a remarkable take-up since its launch just six months ago, taking a leading place in the UK IT education market.
Already in use across 16 LEAs, including a roll-out in Manchester schools, Freedom2Teach has also been chosen as a pilot project by Cumbria Local Education Authority, and is under consideration by four regional Grids for Learning.
Designed with teachers in mind, Freedom2Teach is a comprehensive solution providing schools and educational institutions with the ability to manage internet use with security, flexibility and most importantly, with ease. The product offers full administrative and control functions for internet use in schools.
Freedom2Teach is produced by Freedom2, the provider of intelligent internet solutions for schools and a division of Imparo, which produces high quality educational products.
Matt Gray, Managing Director of Freedom2, said: "Freedom2Teach offers everything schools require when using the internet: management, control, security, flexibility, and most of all, ease of use."
Its presence in 16 LEAs around the UK in only six months since launch, illustrates that it is ideally suited to the needs of schools and teachers.
The internet is an integral part of today's education curriculum, and has opened a wealth of opportunities and teaching possibilities. However, web resources need to be secured, controlled and managed, which can often be difficult and time-consuming for teachers.
Freedom2Teach enables internet-based ICT to be easily adopted by teachers as part of their day-to-day routine, and allows resources to be shared across schools via a secure VPN. The complete system control interface offers ICT Coordinators total control over every aspect of the Freedom2Teach service through designated user groups.
The product also comes with a filtration function, allowing teachers to bar access to unsuitable websites, and an auditing facility which offers the ability to track exactly who accesses which sites, when and for how long.
One new feature that will be particularly appealing to busy teachers is Freedom2's ability to send out a daily email alert. This updates a designated person for instance the Headteacher of new security threats, unauthorised web page requests and virus attacks in the last 24 hours, bringing schools 'peace of mind' in a box!
A caching feature ensures that online resources required by teachers are available as and when called for. A teacher can, therefore, be sure that any required web material can be pre-stored before the lesson, so it is available as required during a class.
The product works with all the PCs on a school's network, and comes with a choice of user-friendly interfaces for staff and pupils.
