The Big Bus Approved as a Curriculum Online Content Provider
January 2003
Award-winning developer of high-quality, interactive educational products, The Big Bus, today announces its approval as a Curriculum Online content provider. Curriculum Online is a government initiative, set up to provide teachers with easy access to a wide range of digital learning materials - making life easier both in and out of the classroom.
As part of the initiative, the government has created £50 million worth of electronic Learning Credits (eLCs) for distribution to schools across England, with each primary school receiving an average of £2,000. These credits must be redeemed during the 2002 to 2003 school year and can only be spent on certified digital resources, such as CD-Roms and online products and services
To date, the government has released £30 million of eLCs, with the remaining £20 million being issued next spring. The Big Bus' Curriculum Online approved status means schools can now spend their credits on its interactive educational product.
The Big Bus is a series of activities and games which help teachers by encouraging three to eleven year olds to learn in a fun, colourful environment. A recent report by Teachers Evaluating Educational Multimedia (TEEM) acknowledged a mismatch between computer games and curriculum content. The Big Bus, however, addresses this issue, as all the activities are designed to support the National Curriculum.
Schools currently planning how to spend their portion of the funds can find more information on The Big Bus at www.thebigbus.com. Further details of the Curriculum Online initiative can be found at www.curriculumonline.gov.uk.
